Gemcrafter
If there's one thing that we share with the magpie species of bird it's that we're drawn to shiny things which is why there are so many games about gems like GemCrafter. Interestingly, the most popular types of gem-related games all fit in the puzzle genre because we just can't get enough of putting similar gems together. That's what's moving this game forward as you go on a journey across multiple environments to find all sorts of gems, match them together, and use their power to discover even more gems. You're a gem hunter who is hunting for adventure as well as gems.
About GemCrafter
There's a simple pleasure that comes with matching similar objects together and it's more rewarding when it's something valuable like treasure or gems. This game wants to make you feel good for every good move you make. When you put gems together, you're rewarded with pleasing sounds and a lot of sparkles to please the senses. Getting the high scores is even more flashy and you're encouraged to get them not just to progress through the levels but just to feel successful. There are times when you might get stumped, but the gems aren't going anywhere meaning you can take a step back when you want.
How to Play
GemCrafter is a 2D puzzle game about matching gems together by using the mouse. To move a gem, just click on it with the Left Mouse Button and then drag it over to the place you want to move it. When you're on the level select screen, you can use the cursor to navigate the UI and then click on unlocked levels that you want to play as well as any available power-ups that you want to use. The goal of each level is to use matching to fulfill the level requirements aiming to get all three stars so that you can get a Magic Key.
Each level presents a square grid with gems placed in designated spots. To make a match, you just need to place one gem adjacent to two or more similar gems. When matched, the gems will fuse into one new gem. As long as there's a clear path, gems can be moved anywhere on the grid. Keep in mind that with every move, more gems will be added to the grid. If you run out of moves (indicated in the circle at the top of the screen) or the grid fills up, you'll need to restart the level again. Keep this in mind when playing on grids that have stone blocks.
As you progress, gems with traits like levitation or being frozen in ice will appear and you'll need to make use of their mechanics. You'll want to use the least amount of moves possible to complete the level and earn three stars. This will grant you a Magic Key and the more you have, the more likely you are to unlock the Treasure Chests that appear along the journey. Opening them grants you power-ups like Pickaxes that you can activate prior to starting the level.
Each chest holds a special gem linked to the current world you're in. You need to collect all the special gems to complete the world.
Tips and Tricks
This is a puzzle game where there's no time limit which means that you can take your time on each puzzle. Since the matches can happen in various arrangements, look for moves that guarantee the most gems removed. This can open up more space or trickle into extra matches.
