Jewel Monsters
When we play games, we run a very high chance of having to fight monsters in a multitude of contexts such as the unusual one in Jewel Monsters. We appear to be in the role of a treasure hunter looking for different jewels in the wilderness. The lands are anything but safe with all sorts of monsters making them their home. They're very protective which means we need to use our knowledge of jewel synergy to defend ourselves. It's not the most traditional way of fighting, but it's what we know and it relies on our brainpower to be effective.
About Jewel Monsters
There's always a reason to match three or more similar objects together, but the semantics are just paperwork. This game tries to make matching more of an adventure by having us fight monsters with our matching powers. The more you think about it, the more you're focusing on things that just distract you from the game itself. There could be all sorts of reasons why these monsters are vulnerable to jewels being matched, but all that matters is that that's the reality. You need to think strategically and quickly because this is a puzzle game in the trenches with monsters bearing down on you.
How to Play
Jewel Monsters is a 2D matching puzzle game about slaying monsters using the mouse. To move jewels around, move the cursor to the jewel you want to move, click and hold the Left Mouse Button, and then drag the jewel to where you want to move it. You can only move jewels one spot up, down, left, or right. If it doesn't make a match it will move back to its original position. The goal of each level is to make enough jewel matches to slay all the monsters.
The game is played from a first-person view, with the monsters appearing at the top of the screen, and the jewel grid appearing below them. Right underneath the monster is your health meter. While you're trying to make jewel matches, the monster will periodically attack you and drain your health. If it drops to zero, you'll need to try the level again. The monster's health meter is indicated by the number above its head.
To hurt monsters, you need to match jewels. The monster's color determines which jewels you need to match to damage it. Matches must have a minimum of three jewels in a row, each one doing one point of damage to the monster. You can match other jewels on the grid to change the arrangement so that you can match the jewels you need. Once a monster is defeated, you'll move on to the next monster. Progress is indicated by the bar on the right and once you reach the top, you'll win the level.
Tips and Tricks
The challenge of this game is that it applies pressure in the form of ongoing monster attacks. Luckily, you'll be able to see the monster approaching in the distance which means that you can start planning your moves ahead of time. Aim to set up the grid so that you're always ready to make at least one match in multiple colors.
